Yeah Muslims could be exempt but so could any other religion. The wording in this exemption is so vague almost anyone could could make a claim to be exempt. You are totally grasping at straws here.
I wish that I was actually supreised by this….as it is…it is consistent with what appear to be his priorities….

Fair enough, but Christians’ would have a hard time arguing and/or proving that their religion forbids insurance. While Islam, amongst other religions expressly forbids it.

And…Muslims get foot baths in public universities, and time off from work to pray and they don’t have to handle pork products, not drive people in taxis if they have a guide dog or alcohol, while Christians have their holidays removed and they are not allowed to discuss their faith because they are “forcing” their religion on people by merely talking about it.

Yep. Bad on you. You know, when the word gets out that Muslims can exempt, and the lot of them all of a sudden aren’t paying in (not good for the plan) and their fellow citizens figure it out, is that more like dividing a nation, or providing “unity?” The sad part is, like life time exemptions for senior Congressional and White House Staff (and they have no idea how that got in there), a stratification is occurring that is anything but being about for the common good, the very clause the Dems invoked as authority.
How can muslims drive a car in Pennsylvania? PA requires car insurance. Surely they are not exempt from that.
@kps2005 I had this discussion with someone else the other day. I think the the issue here is that muslims can’t claim exemption from car insurance because they don’t have to drive a car (they can opt of driving a car) , its a choice they make, therefore they can choose to have a car with insurance, or no care with no insurance. However, you don’t have a choice in living (well you do, but if you opt out of life it’s usually pretty permanent) therefore, they can claim exemption from insurance.

@General Lee, there are a number of reasons why I can’t post it. I am bound to certain terms, which I will not violate,and cannot speak of. I am all for freedom of speech, but I don’t support your point of view. This is the land of the free, disagreement is one thing, hate speech is another; we are all Americans(most of us). You will never defeat your opponents in that manner. Why not try a more intellectual approach. It is far more effective.
True Christian denominations should be able to claim exemption because their religion forbids abortion and euthanasia, which are both part of this all-encompassing “health-care” bill.

Its not even a QUESTION of which groups WILL be recognized. The groups recognized already are. They are the groups already under the legal status of “exempt”, and ALREADY don’t pay taxes.

@Jason, there is nothing set in stone about which groups are and are not recognized, there’s no constitutional definition of a tax exempt group. Nowhere in the clause of the legislation in question does it say that the exempt groups will be those already recognized. They can always exempt other groups. Are you somehow suggesting that the government would not implement further legislation to exempt another group? Of course they would. Especially after enough groups make a big fuss about being forced to to purchase something they do not believe in. It would be politically expedient for them to do so. So it IS a QUESTION of which groups will be exempt.

I think it is atrocious that Muslims get special treatment based on their religion. Next thing you know they will be pushing their anti-abortion and anti-homosexual agenda on U.S. citizens. We are so fortunate to live in a country that provides abortion and accepts homosexuality, unlike those horrible Islamic countries where these things are punished according to ‘sharia law.’

Muslims that purchase homes using traditional financing have routinley purchased home owners insurance. There is no exception for this for their religion. How then are they allowed to be exempt from participating in this new unwanted boondoggle called Obamacre?

The IRS list of exempted religions only covers those recognized before around 1950.

@Doug Fulton, The only problem with refusing to pay the penalty is the fact the bill gives them permission to either take the money from your tax return or add it to what you already owe. So the only way to get around that would be to not file at all, the problem with this though is that the bill gives the federal government power to access your bank account and bank records electronically without a court order….Trust me Doug, we have already said goodbye to what once was America.

as far as muslims not believing in insurance- don’t they have to have auto insurance to drive in this country? Don’t tell me they are exempt from that too. Do they pay any taxes. I’d like to protest this ruling, why is it just the middle american’s are the only ones to have to bear the burden of all these exemptions? The rich don’t pay taxes and the fat cats in washington are exempt from the health care reform. The poor don’t pay yet get full health care coverage. All the immigrents get free everything.
This has to stop. It seems to me that the big wigs in washington care more about other countries and illeagel immigrents than they care about u.s. citizens.

All this fuss and no solutions. If the legal action taken by the 26 Attorneys General fails to pass the Supreme Court what then? If Muslims can be excluded from Health Insurence then will all insurances be next? Will that make it impossible for leagal action if we are struck in a vehicle driven by a Muslim or for that matter have any recourse where insurance would be available to mitigate damage? There is no constitutional refference to the division of church and state and this is just another example of a God fearing country going down the tubes due to secularists forgetting from whence they came. That would be a loving GOD not a hateful ALLAH.

I find it offensive that they would get free benefits by saying they don’t believe in insurance! Do you have insurance on your car? Yes. Then you are not exempt from the program. End of story.

This is such a crock of crap. Do none of the groups drive a car? Are they walking everywhere? If they own and drive a car they have insurance….If they own any property with a mortgage, they have insurance or they would not get a loan. They could not function in this country with out a insurance.!!!

You see what is happening, you are all arguing about the rhetoric within the health care “law”. The real argument is the unconstitutionality of this law in the first place. The law says :”If you are living in America, you WILL have health insurance.” No exceptions!! Oh, wait. You don’t have to obey obey any law but allah’s. Right? WRONG! Obey the law like the rest of us, or go home!
I say send anyone who does not abide by our laws (foreigners, lawmakers etc) can go back home and take Obama and his healthcare bomb with him. All illegals (no matter what nationality) should be sent back immediately…if they want to live here, let them go through the proper channels (not sneaking across borders), learn the language, speak it and fly OUR FLAG….otherwise, stay home and try to improve your own country….that’s how we did it.
When validating religious affiliation for exempting from Obamacare, the gov’t needs to check and see if the individual has a car registered to them, which would require compulsory auto insurance. If insurance is gambling, they should not be driving a vehicle.

What happened to separation of church and state? If you are a citizen you should have to abide by this law and it shouldn’t matter what religion you are right? When it comes to Christians everyone screams about separation of church and state but anyone else it’s just overlooked. I don’t like Obamacare one bit but if we have to live with it as citizens we all should, all citizens!
